HUNGER ACTION MONTH!!

September will be here before you know it and with it comes Hunger Action Month. Lots going on around here, and we’re still in the final planning stages, but we’ll start rolling out the events as they are confirmed.

FIRST, if you’re a fan of cheesecake, you’ll be happy to know Cheesecake Factory has debuted “Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake,” a delicious sweet treat. For every slice of this cake sold, 25cents will be donated to Feeding America, with our Foodbank receiving 75% of donations made!

This is just the first of many Hunger Action Month events we’re involved with, so check back to our website’s Hunger Action Month page often to keep updated about how you can get involved.

He’s helping families in Hampton Roads

PORTSMOUTH, Va. - A musician is stepping up to help feed families in Hampton Roads.

The Dave Matthews Band is offering a pretty big prize to people who are willing to donate to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia.

If you donate a can of food or more you’ll be entered into a drawing to win front row tickets to his concert this Friday. You’ll also get a chance to win a “meet and greet” with the band.

WAVY TV10 reported last evening:
“A rise in need and drop in donations has the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia issuing an urgent plea for help. In the past year, the Foodbank says it has helped 330,000 people, up 32% from the previous fiscal year. Marianne Smith, Chief Development Officer for the Foodbank, says food and monetary donations have dropped significantly over the past two months. She is asking community members and businesses to host food drives. You can deliver donations directly to the Foodbank or one of its many drop-off sites.”

Patsy DeLacey is an inspiration to us all. This high school Girl Scout is transforming the tragedy of losing her mother into the miracle of life by donating grown produce from her garden to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia’s neighbors in need. Her mother was a huge advocate of the Foodbank’s work and her memory lives on in the tradition Patsy has chosen to continue by helping hungry citizens of our region. For more on this touching story, please click here.
